Welcome to the College of Natural and Social Sciences which houses 12 departments and programs. It is my honor to lead the college this year, as we celebrate the 75th Anniversary of Cal State LA.

The mission of the Urban Ecology Center (UEC), housed within Cal State LA’s College of Natural and Social Sciences (NSS), is to support the advancement of transdisciplinary research, education, and professional development with a focus on sustainable, equitable, and fair economic drivers, land use practices, and public policies.
The American Historical Association has awarded the 2022 Institutional Equity Award to the Cal State LA Department of History.
NSS professors Choi Chatterjee and Krishna Foster were recognized for their outstanding achievements and excellence in teaching. Chatterjee received the President's Distinguished Professor Award and Foster received an Outstanding Professor Award.
The California State University's Council on Ocean Affairs Science and Technology Council on Ocean Affairs Science and Technology (COAST) Undergraduate Research Support Program Cal State LA award winners.
NSS congratulates Charmaine Chui who at 16 years old, graduated with a dual degree in psychology and criminal justice with summa cum laude honors.
Cal State LA received a $1M grant from Wells Fargo to launch a program supporting students to learn more about entrepreneurship and communities recover from the effects of the pandemic.
Alumnus Alma Rosa Nieto understands the importance of representation and role models and aims to be a source of inspiration to current Cal State LA students.
The objective of the M.A. degree in anthropology is to prepare students for professional-level employment in industry and government, teaching positions in community colleges, or advanced study towards a Ph.D. degree.
