| Two Cal State L.A. Students Win Awards at 15th Annual High Tech Expo Los Angeles, CA -- California State University, Los Angeles garnered two poster presentation awards at the 15th annual High Tech Student Expo, part of the recent NAFEO (National Association for Equality in Higher Education) 2001 Conference. The winning Cal State L.A. students are listed below: Karla Lisandra Solorio (sophomore biology major; El Monte resident), second place $200 award winner: "Aquaculture: The Effects of Saline Concentration on Elodea." Her research was done under the direction of Professor John Gamon in the Department of Biology and Microbiology. Solorio is currently working with Professor Raymond Garcia in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry on a new research project this year. The National Association of Equal Opportunity in Higher Education is the national umbrella and public policy advocacy organization for 118 of the nation's historically and predominantly Black colleges and universities--public and private, large and small, urban and rural, liberal arts, agricultural, research, scientific and technological institutions.
