CAL STATE L.A. CELEBRATES
2000 ASIAN PACIFIC HERITAGE MONTH

What & Who:
California State University, Los Angeles commemorates Asian Pacific Heritage Month 2000 with a month of festivities.

Where:
Cal State L.A. is located at the Eastern Avenue exit, San Bernardino (I-10) Freeway, at the interchange of the 10 and 710 Freeways. Public permit dispenser parking is available in Lots C and G, or upper level of northern Parking Structure II.

Events:
Asian Pacific Heritage Culture Fest Kick-Off. Tue., May 2, 12 noon, Free Speech Area. This event will kick off a month-long series of programs celebrating Asian Pacific American culture. The event will feature diverse creative expressions from Asian and Asian American performers.

English Graduate Student Conference. Sat. May 6, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m., U-SU. With a keynote address by Marilyn Chin, writer and professor at San Diego State University, this conference will feature the work of graduate students in the English Department at Cal State L.A.

Mothers, Daughters, Sisters. Thu. May 11, 12 noon & 6 p.m., Maxwell Theatre, U-SU. This compelling film explores how breast cancer has affected the lives of Asian Pacific women, their families, and communities. Directed by Patricia Kinaga, 1999, 52 minutes.

Tai Chi Workshop. Wed., May 17, 3:30 p.m., South Pasadena Room, U-SU. Visiting scholar Wright Wang will be leading us in a tai chi workshop. Wang is a fourth generation disciple of the Wu style Tai chi chuan.

Myth(s) of Creation: Video Works by Ming-Yuen S. Ma. Thu., May 18, 12 noon and 6 p.m. Maxwell Theatre, U-SU. Several videos by Ming-Yuen S. Ma will be screened that explore race, gender, sexuality, language, and culture. Ma produces both narrative and experimental works that are highly provocative. The videos will be screened at both 12 noon and 6 p.m., and Ma will be in attendance at thee evening screening to answer questions.

Japanese Animania. Thu., May 25, 12 noon-6 p.m. Maxwell Theatre, U-SU. A festival featuring the most innovative and influential films of Japanese animation.
