Cal State L.A. Implements Pilot Workforce Program

Los Angeles, CA -- Are you looking for a job after graduation or seeking an opportunity to gain career experience? California State University, Los Angeles' students will now have an opportunity to search for current career-related opportunities by becoming involved in a new program called CSU Advantage L.A.

Launched today, CSU Advantage L.A. is an education-employment partnership working to develop and promote employment opportunities for California's workforce needs. Funded by the CSU, the new program is supported by resources from Cal State L.A., the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, and UNITE-LA.

The purpose of CSU Advantage L.A. is to create more opportunities for active learning that connects academic content and "real world" context. In order to hire qualified college students and network with potential employees, employers may post an unlimited amount of job openings on this site for a nominal annual membership fee.

According to Program Coordinator Louie A. Lujan, CSU Advantage L.A. works to enhance several career-related initiatives already in place at the University, such as guest lectures, job-shadowing, service learning, internships, career fairs, and career opportunities.

CSULA alumni and faculty as well as interested guest speakers are also invited to take advantage of the program by exploring the menus in the drop-down boxes at the top of the main page. There are self-serve options that one can explore on the site.

For questions about participating in CSU Advantage L.A., contact Program Coordinator Louie A. Lujan at (323) 343-3285 or via e-mail at llujan@cslanet.calstatela.edu. You may also visit the program Web site at: www.calstatela.edu/univ/cdc/csuadvantagela/.

UNITE-LA services the Los Angeles Unified School District with School-to-Career and Small Learning Community resources. Administration staff and facilitators work through local schools to form partnerships and solicit work-based learning opportunities for students.

The Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce assures prosperity for the Los Angeles region by being the voice of business, helping its members grow, and promoting collaboration.
