Cal State L.A. Student Finalists to
Compete in CSU Media Arts Festival

Los Angeles, CA -- The 13th Annual CSU Summer Arts’ Media Arts Festival is proud to announce that five Cal State L.A. students——the largest number of finalists selected from any CSU campus——have been chosen as 2003 finalists in the Festival’s competition.

Animation category: Anthony Lockhard – The Snowman
Documentary category: William Recinos & Rene Ayala – The Cause of Speed;
Noe Moreno – Wendy’s Flight
Experimental category: Alicia Eschwege – Blind Roses
TV-Short Form Category: Katy Boggio – CSULA Promo and Eve Sterwin

Their films, as well as those of other finalists, will be screened on Friday, November 14, 7 p.m., at the 13th Annual Media Arts Festival at CSU Channel Islands. The awards will be presented at 7 p.m. on Saturday, November 15.

On November 15, Cal State L.A.’s professor of broadcasting Ivan Cury will also be presented with this year’s Rosebud Award, an annual CSU award bestowed to an outstanding member of media production.

CSU Summer Arts established the Media Arts Festival in 1990 to give talented students studying film, video, and new media within 23-campus CSU system an opportunity to present their work for critical review. In 2000, the Festival expanded its mission to include helping bridge the gap between students and working professionals. CSULA broadcasting professor Alan Bloom is the campus faculty adviser for this competition. An award-winning filmmaker, Bloom participated in the initiation of the Film and Video Festival as part of the CSU Summer Arts program in 1991, and was director in 1997 and 1998.
