David Mason is also a distinguished translator and has edited or co-edited a number of anthologies, including McGraw-Hill’s Twentieth-Century American Poetry and Twentieth-Century American Poetics.

Writing of The Country I Remember, Joyce Carol Oates observes, “This is a work of extraordinary warmth, vigor, imagination, and sympathy . . . as if, by magic, the experiences are our own, seen through the prism of memory and poetry.”

And, Mary Jo Salter says of The Poetry of Life and the Life of Poetry, “In [Mason’s] essays we follow a subtle and trustworthy literary mind absorbing, defining, and appreciating the achievements of sensibilities both similar to and unlike his own. By taking pleasure in poetry, he gives us even more.”
