| Behind-the-Scenes Look at Cal State L.A. for Los Angeles, CA  Cal State L.A. will reveal Âworlds of opportunity on its campus during a University-wide Open House on Saturday, April 13, 2002. Visitors ages 1 to 100 will be able to get a behind-the-scenes look at the wonders of Cal State L.A. from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. From the ÂWorld of Arts and Letters, there will be demonstrations of Raku pottery-making, an introduction to philosophy through performance art, and scenes from the recent John Lion New Plays Festival, courtesy of the College of Arts and Letters. The Luckman Fine Arts Complex will also open its doors for guests to tour backstage of the theatre as well as to survey the recent works on view in the art gallery. In the same universe, the ÂWorld of Engineering, Computer Science, and Technology will feature numerous exhibits, demonstrations, a Mariachi band gig, and a ÂMeet the Dean session. For the publicÂs enjoyment, the College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Technology will display the Super Eagle, Cal State L.A.Âs futuristic, award-winning Âsupermileage vehicle, along with the UniversityÂs world-famous solar-powered car, Solar Eagle III. Martial arts demonstrations, health information booths, a trivia game for the whole family, and more will be offered by the ÂWorld of Health and Human Services. Be prepared for a galaxy of wonders as the College of Health and Human Services also presents a crime lab demonstration which will feature such hot topics as DNA testing, crime scene finger printing, and eye-witnessing techniques. The ÂWorld of Natural and Social Sciences will visually entice visitors with its geography map rooms, archeological exhibits, biological science greenhouse, social interaction laboratory, forensic psychology lab, and rock and mineral museum. Faculty-presented Âmagical experiments and hands-on workshops will also be presented by various academic departments within the College of Natural and Social Sciences. As part of the ÂWorld of Education, the C. Lamar Mayer Learning Center will introduce visitors to interactive playrooms for young children experiencing learning difficulties through its educational enrichment and English language development programs. Among the dayÂs general festivities are a fair featuring student clubs and organizations, college tours for prospective students and their families, a soccer skill showcase, raffles and giveaways, face painting, games and food. Introducing the community to music of the various world cultures, Cal State L.A.Âs annual World Music Festival will present a concert program featuring CSLA Latin Jazz Ensemble (Latin jazz), Slowrider (rock), Fred Walker (jazz), Susie Hansen (salsa), Taiko drummers, and more.
