AnnouncesActing Dean of Continuing EducationLos Angeles, CA - August 5, 1998 - Los Angeles resident James J. Kelly, Dean of the School of Health and Human Services at California State University, Los Angeles, has been named Acting Dean of Continuing Education, effective July 29, 1998. Kelly has agreed to serve in this post until the appointment of a permanent dean to replace Lynn Elen Burton, who has accepted the position of Dean of Continuing Education at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver. Kelly's administrative background includes continuing education experience in Hawaii, where he ran distance education programs on all seven islands for the University of Hawaii. He will continue to serve as Dean of Health and Human Services at Cal State L.A. Kelly came to Cal State L.A. in September 1997 from Cal State Long Beach, where he was director of Department of Social Work and professor of Social Work. He received his B.A. from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, which named him Distinguished Alumnus in Social Sciences for 1997-98. He also earned his doctorate in Social Welfare from the Florence Heller Graduate School of Policy, Planning and Administration at Brandeis University, and completed a postdoctoral clinical fellowship in psychiatry at UCLA/Sepulveda Veteran's Administration Medical Center.
