Pacific Coast Council on
Latin American Studies Conference
at Cal State L.A.

What & Who:
California State University, Los Angeles will be hosting the Pacific Coast Council on Latin American Studies conference, entitled "Latin America on the Brink of the Millennium." This is an annual conference organized to promote wider interest and academic learning in Latin American studies.

October 28-30, 1999.

Cal State L.A. University-Student Union. The University is located at the Eastern Avenue exit, San Bernardino (I-10) Freeway, at the interchange of the 10 and 710 Freeways. Public (permit dispensers) parking is available in Lots C and G, or the top level of North Parking Structure II.

More than 100 participants from Mexico, Peru and the United States are expected to attend the three-day conference which includes the following sessions: "Mexican and Chicano/a Literary Production," "Human Right in South America," "Latin America and the World," "La novela mexicana en las postrimerias del siglo," "Latin American Immigrants in Los Angeles," "Mexico from the 1920s through the 1940s," "Economics and Ethnicity in Latin American History," "Water, Environment and Development in Latin America," "Rural Development and Central America," "Gender, Sexuality, and Social Movements," "Foreigners in Nineteenth Century Mexico," "Porfirian Mexico," "Contemporary Mexican Politics: A Roundtable," "Colonialism and Indigenous Peoples," "Latin American Literatures and Linguistics," "Student Activism in Latin American Studies," "South American Politics," "Politics and Culture in Twentieth Century Mexico," "Historical Memory in Latin America," "So Many Sources, So Little Times: A Practical Workshop Focusing on Digital Resources for Latin American Studies," "Organizing Against Globalization in Los Angeles," "Cartografias femeninas en la produccion cultural Chicano/Iberoamericana, Part 1 and Part II," "Asia and Latin America," "Human Rights in Guatemala, and "Modern Chile."
