Los Angeles, CA – Narendra Taly (Walnut resident), professor of civil engineering at Cal State L.A., was recently presented a Best Paper Award for his paper, “The Role of Fiber Reinforced Polymeric (FRP) Materials in Industrialized Building Systems,” at the International Conference on Industrial Building Systems, held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The presentation was also published in the conference proceedings.

Taly, who joined the CSULA faculty in 1977, received his B.Sc. from Banras Hindu University, India, M.S. from Bucknell University, Pennsylvania, and Ph.D. from West Virginia University. An expert in bridge design and structural engineering, Taly is a registered professional civil engineer in West Virginia and California. He is currently the faculty advisor for the CSULA student chapter of the Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering (SAMPE). This year, the CSULA SAMPE student team won third place for its glass bridge model at SAMPE’s 2003 Super-Light Weight Composite Bridge Building Contest.

The International Conference on Industrial Building Systems was organized by the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), Malaysia, and supported by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government, the Institution of Engineers Malaysia and the Housing Developers Association. The theme of the conference was “Global Trends in research, Development and Construction.” It was held in conjunction with The International Construction Week 2003, an annual event organized by CIDB, where all players in the construction industry from all over the world meet to discuss, exhibit and promote their technology, expertise and products.

The conference provides an international forum for experts, researchers, practitioners, policy makers and professionals to exchange ideas and disseminate information on the latest development in industrial building systems. The forum also provides an avenue for propagation of industrialized construction as the preferred mode of construction to achieve higher productivity and quality.
