Second-straight year a Golden Eagle has won the conference title

Cal State L.A. sophomore Sarah Bouchard (Manchester, England) won this morning’s California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women’s Cross Country Championship, held at Bidwell Park in Chico, Calif., completing the 6,000 meter course in a time of 21:21.6, 19 seconds ahead of runner-up Katie Lee of Chico State (21:40.6).

This marks the second-straight year a Cal State L.A. runner has won the CCAA women’s cross country individual title. Annmarie Housen, who won it last year, finished in eighth place this year with a time of 22:19.5.

Both Bouchard and Housen earn All-CCAA for their top-15 efforts this morning while Bouchard also takes home CCAA Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Year honors for her conference championship.

Other CSULA finishes at the championships were Dominique Rosete (51st, 24:39.8), Beatriz Reyes (57th, 24:59.6), Ligia Espinoza (76th, 27:37.6) and Erin Luksza (77th, 27:58.1).

As a team, Cal State L.A. took sixth place, its best finish in three years after finishing ninth the past two seasons. Chico State won the meet followed by UC San Diego and Cal State Stanislaus.

Cal State L.A. next heads to the 2003 NCAA Regionals, slated for Sat., Nov. 8, at nearby Prado Park in Chino, while the NCAA Championships will take place on Sat., Nov. 22, in Raleigh, N.C.
