Cal State L.A. Volleyball Sophomore Tera Epps
Named National and Conference Player of the Week

Tulare native led Golden Eagles to upset of #2 UC San Diego last week

Cal State L.A. sophomore middle blocker Te’Ara Epps (Tulare, Calif./Union) has been named both the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) volleyball player of the week as well as the AVCA/Sports Imports National Player of the Week, it was announced this afternoon by the CCAA and American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).

This marks the third time in the last four years a Cal State L.A. player has earned a National Player of the Week honor, joining Kristy Sain (Oct. 14, 2002) and Kasey Jungwirth (Sept. 11, 2000).

Epps had a dominant week, leading the Golden Eagles on Wednesday to a 3-0 sweep of #2 UC San Diego followed by a dramatic come-from-behind win on Friday night against Grand Canyon.

On Wednesday, Epps tallied 12 kills on 16 swings without an error and added four block assists as the Golden Eagles dominated UCSD in the three-game sweep. On Friday, Epps tallied a career-high 19 kills on 28 swings, and notched a career-best nine blocks for the third time in the last five matches, as CSULA rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat GCU in five games.

For the week, Epps hit .636, with 31 kills and just three errors on 44 swings. She also notched 13 blocks in the two matches.

Cal State L.A. is home again this Wed., Oct. 29, to host Cal State Bakersfield in the Eagles Nest. First serve is 7 p.m.
