| Cal State L.A. Celebrates 2002 Women's History Month What & Who: The WomenÂs Resource Center at California State University, Los Angeles will host a month of events to commemorate 2002 WomenÂs History Month. Jocelyn Wilkinson will help kick off the monthÂs celebration with a soulful mix of acoustic pop infused with jazz, blues, folk, and world rhythms. Each powerful song is a piece of a whole concept. When: Kick-off celebration: Wednesday, February 28, 3 p.m., Café LA, University-Student Union. Where: Cal State L.A. is located at the Eastern Avenue exit, San Bernardino (I-10) Freeway, at the interchange of the 10 and 710 Freeways. Public permit dispenser parking available in Lot C, Lot G, or North Parking Structure II. More Events: LECTURE-ÂThe Legacy of the Black Panther: Envisioning Equality. Wed., Mar. 6, 7 p.m., Los Angeles Room, University-Student Union. In 1974, Elaine Brown became the first and only woman to lead the Black Panther Party. She is the author of A Taste of Power: A Black WomanÂs Story, and the forthcoming book, New Age Racism and the Condemnation of ÂLittle B. She will discuss her efforts to create a society that is inclusive and egalitarian, focusing on resolving problems of racism, gender oppression, and class disparity in America. The event will be followed by a reception. FILM-ÂIÂm the One That I Want. Thu., Mar. 7, 12 noon & 6 p.m., Maxwell Theatre, University-Student Union. The film presents comedienne/actor/activist Margaret Cho doing her critically acclaimed, one-woman show. In her hilarious performance, Cho uses humor to explore racism, sexuality, the media industry, drugs and alcohol, body image, and much more. Directed by Lionel Coleman, 96 min., 2000. EVENT-International WomenÂs Day: DÃa De La Mujer. Sat., Mar. 9, 12 noon, Alhambra Room, University-Student Union. DÃa de la Mujer provides an opportunity to recognize and honor the women in our lives who have contributed to their families, society and humanity.
