Track and Field
There are four major competition facilities on campus: Reeder Field, Jesse Owens Track and Field, the Eagles Nest Gymnasium and the Tennis Court Complex. Both the baseball field and track and field are named for prominent athletes in Cal State L.A.'s history; former baseball coach Jim Reeder and American track and field star Jesse Owens. The track is also where the University's men and women's soccer teams compete.
There's a longstanding tradition of athletic excellence here, with numerous national championships and dozens of conference titles in the school's history. A good number of the University's athletes have gone professional and been Olympians. Among those you might recognize are Olympic gold medalists Mal Whitfield and tennis great Billie Jean King.
